

Charlie was born on January 24, 1948 in Memphis, TN to Tom and Oneida Fondren Crumby. During his childhood, he lived in Robinsonville, MS and graduated from Tunica High School. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Mississippi in 1970 and went on to earn a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Mississippi in 1971. Charlie went to work for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) and moved to Germantown, TN in 1979. In 1985, he became a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) by the State of Tennessee and started a private practice. Following retirement from FDIC, Charlie was a trader at Duncan Williams, as well as a member of Carnival Memphis Krewe Ennead.
In 2011, Charlie married Carol Carpenter of Jonesboro, AR and the couple moved to Collierville. They enjoyed traveling the world together, particularly to Spain and the Netherlands. He also loved spending time with his beloved neighbors, and of course, his family, especially his cousins, children, and grandchildren.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Tom Crumby, Jr. He is survived by his loving wife Carol; three children AnneMarie Crumby Harper (Travis Harper) of Denver, James Crumby of southern Colorado, and Scott Carpenter (Lark Wreath) of St. Louis; two grandchildren Jace Harper and Ashton Harper of Denver; and caretakers Briana Alston and Teresa Smith.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 18 at 1 p.m. at the Church of the Holy Communion in Memphis, TN. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Parkinson’s Foundation (Parkinson.org) designate the chapter in Memphis, TN for all donations.
