
Dea Andersen Kline, 89, died July 24, 2011 at The Village at Germantown- Health Care Center, Germantown, TN. Mrs. Kline was born in Kansas City, Missouri and graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a BA degree in urban sociology. She dedicated her life to serving the towns and cities where she lived. In Haddonfield, NJ she served as chair of the Haddonfield Planning Board and was instrumental in establishing an adult education program for the community. In Baltimore, MD Mrs. Kline had a tremendous impact in the community through her work as the Director of Community affairs for Johns Hopkins University. She worked with the Baltimore Citizens Planning and Housing Association (CPHA), the Baltimore City Fair, Community Conversations breakfast meetings, Greater Homewood Community Corp, the Barclay School and summer camps for inner city youth. Many of these programs are still an integral part of the community today. Dea was known for her strong independent spirit which led her on many sailing adventures with Womanship to New Zealand, the BVI and the Chesapeake Bay. Her commitment to helping others continued in her personal life. She served as a Stephen minister for many years. She was a devout Christian, serving as an Elder in her churches: Chestnut Grove Presbyterian Church in Phoenix, MD and 2nd Presbyterian Church, Hilton Head, SC. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her husband, Walter Harmon Kline and sister Ann Mohr Andersen Hammond, preceded Mrs. Kline in death. She is survived by two daughters, Susan Kline Herrmann and her husband Dr. Frederick Herrmann of Lawrenceville, NJ, Karen Kline Mortimer and her husband Bruce Rollen Mortimer of Phoenix, MD, and a son, Jeffrey Clark Kline and his wife Genie Kenny Kline of Collierville, TN. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Kristen Mortimer Miller, Lindsay Rollen Mortimer, Jennifer Margaret Haubein and Karl Frederick Herrmann, and six great grandchildren: Lucy Mortimer Miller, Josie Kline Miller, Ethan Jeffrey Haubein, Jackson Rollen Schuchard, Owen William Miller, and David William Haubein and her nieces Laura Dea Hammond, Nancy Jo Hammond and Alison Bryant Hammond. A memorial service will be held at the Village at Germanton, Wednesday July 27, 2011 at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Germantown Presbyterian Church or Crossroads Hospice Charitable Foundation online at www. crhcf. org.
