

Gene Powell Waldrop was born in Senatobia, MS, on August 4, 1937 to Raymond and Myra McPherson Waldrop, who predeceased him, and he entered into eternal rest on May 20, 2016, after a brief illness. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and found great joy in his family. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Gail Dodson Waldrop, and daughters Melissa Pentecost (Jim) of Jackson, TN, and Julie Davis (Ryan) of Brentwood, TN, grandchildren Jessica Elkins (Seth), Anna Morgan (Mason), Matthew Davis and Caroline Davis, and sister, Mary Jane Pyle (Larry). Gene was a graduate of Northwest Community College and Mississippi State University and enjoyed his career as a civil engineer. He served in the MS and AL Army National Guard for 8 years. He was a member of Germantown Church of Christ and served many roles in the church while living in various locations. He was a devoted servant of the Lord. He enjoyed gardening, genealogy research and traveling to many countries. His keen intellect, sense of humor, and humility endeared him to many. A memorial service will be held at Germantown Church of Christ on Wednesday, May 25, with visitation at 12:00 p.m. and funeral service at 1:00 p.m. There will be a private burial at a later date. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to Hopeworks.
