George A. Callahan Jr.

George A. Callahan, 82, of Collierville, passed away March 18, 2012, at the Methodist Hospice Residence in Memphis. The family will receive friends beginning at 1 p.m. Monday, March 26, and funeral services will follow at 2 p.m., all at Collierville Funeral Home. Interment will be in Magnolia Cemetery in Collierville. Born in Nashville, TN on May 31, 1929, George proudly served his country for more than 20 years in the U.S. Navy, retiring in 1968. He then began his second career with the Shelby County Board of Education, retiring in 1994. He was a member of White Station Church of Christ. George is survived by his wife of 59 years, Oleta Callahan; 2 children, Denese Gilmer (Mike) and Tony Callahan (Dianne); 4 grandsons, Jeremy, Justin, David, and Mike; and 2 great grandchildren, Abby and Eli.
