James Vernon Bateman

James Vernon Bateman, 90, of Rossville, passed from this life Monday, December 4, 2017 at his home. Mr. Bateman was born in Slayden, MS to the late William and Elizabeth Skelton Bateman. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean conflict, was retired Field Supervisor with the City of Memphis and was a member of Peterson Lake Baptist Church in Collierville. Along with his parents, Mr. Bateman was preceded in death by his wife, Viola Allen Bateman, who died in 2005. He was also preceded by sisters, Juanita Gammons, Florine Chunn and brothers, Percy and Bill Bateman. He is survived by two sisters; Betty Doyle, Lucy West and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 6, 2017 from 5pm to 7pm at Collierville Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be Thursday, December 7, 2017 at 2pm at Collierville Funeral Home in the T. Carl Rutledge Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery near Moscow.
