

James “Jim” Hugh Ellis, 81, passed away on Thursday, January 20, 2011, surrounded by his loving family. Jim was born on December 5, 1929, in Monticello, Arkansas. After serving his country in the Korean War, Jim and his family lived in Memphis and later Jackson, MS. After Jim’s retirement, they moved to Collierville and became active members of Collierville First Baptist Church. Jim was devoted to his wife of 62 years, Jean M. Ellis, and his two children, Jan Carlson and her husband John of Germantown and Randy Ellis and his wife Kim of Clarksville, TN (formerly of Jackson, MS). He also leaves his beloved grandchildren, Steven Carlson, Todd Carlson, and Dawn Barnes. In addition, Jim is survived by his sister-in-law, Gene Mathews of Jackson, MS, and several nieces and nephews. He enjoyed a full and rewarding life and spent time traveling, working in his yard, and participating in many church activities. Jim will always be remembered as a man who loved his family and his church. Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 22, from 5-7 p.m. at Collierville Funeral Home.
