

Jerry Dwaine Mitchell, 70, passed away on January 14, 2018, at Baptist Reynolds Hospice House in Collierville, surrounded by his loving family. Jerry was born on Dec. 10, 1947, in Memphis. He leaves his wife of 50 years, Marcia Moore Mitchell, his mother, Lenora Mitchell, a son, Jason Mitchell, daughter, Emily Gourley (Russell) , his sister, Lynn Mitchell, six grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Dorris D. Mitchell. Mr. Mitchell was a graduate of Central High School, University of Memphis, and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He was an ordained minister, and served in several churches in the music and youth ministry for over 35 years. He was a member of Grace Evangelical Church, where he previously served as choir director. Mr. Mitchell served in the US Air Force and was a Vietnam veteran. For 19 years he worked in the Church Management Software industry at Shelby Systems, Inc. Jerry was an avid motorcycle rider, and was previously a member of the Memphis Harley Owners Group. Jerry was much loved by many, and will be dearly missed. Visitation will be held at Collierville Funeral Home 534 West Poplar Avenue, Wednesday, January 17, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. Funeral will be held at Grace Evangelical Church, 9750 Wolf River Blvd, at 10:00, Thursday, January 18, with burial at Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Parkway. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Grace Venture Fund of Grace Evangelical Church or to Page Robbins Adult Day Care Center in his memory.
