

John was born in Memphis, TN to the late John and Cecil Mae Betsa. He was a man of quiet strength and gentile character, known for his kindness, humility and steadfast nature. Those who knew John will remember him as thoughtful, sincere and deeply respectful of others.
He was a proud member of the Whitehaven High School Class of 1972, where he was well known and highly regarded by his classmates. During his school years, he was active in events and activities and formed friendships that endured throughout his life. He later attended Memphis State University, where he joined a fraternity and continued building lifelong connections.
Throughout his career, John worked in various fields before retiring. He approached his work and responsibilities with dedication and integrity, reflecting the traditional values by which he lived.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Cecil Mae Betsa, and his brother; Howard Betsa. He is survived by his brother, Steve Betsa (Terry); his nieces and nephews, Kendel Betsa, Megan Betsa-Hebert, Brandon Betsa, Nicholas Betsa and Anna Betsa, along with extended family and friends who will cherish his memory.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 1:00pm, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 2:00pm at Collierville Funeral Home.
John will be remembered for his quiet kindness, his steady presence and the simple goodness he carried throughout his life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John's honor to Memphis Athletic Ministries or to a charity of the donor's choice.
