Our deepest sympathy to you all.  What a legacy he leaves!!  I have such fond memories watching him when I was young.  As I had children of my own, seeing their joy in the rodeo fun was the absolute best.  Our son, Jacob, has a shirt signed by Lecile.  Jacob was about three years old.  Memories are wonderful and you all have a lifetime of amazing ones.  We pray those wonderful times carry you through the difficult days

Words can not express our condolences to each of you. Our grandson in Madison,MS was at his last performance in Jackson,MS. He had met Lecile a few years ago at the "Coffee Club." Last Nov., he reminded Bob that his birthday was the following day. He didn't ask for the Sour Cream Coffee Cake, but I made him one. He was a man of many talents and never met a stranger. Collierville has lost an awesome citizen and friend. The "Celebration of Life Ceremony" was so fitting for him; especially the ending !! Praying for the entire family.

Our heartfelt sympathy and prayers go out to you all. We were so saddened to hear of Lecile’s passing. We were able to visit with him, one last time, 2 wks prior, at the Lake Charles, La. Rodeo Performance. May faith and loving memories carry you through this difficult time. He has been a dear friend of ours for over 40 yrs. We were blessed to have known him. 

We had the privilege of meeting him for the first time, year’s ago, when he came to do a Rodeo at James Harper’s outdoor arena in Iowa, La. and we haven’t missed any of his performances since then, at the Burton Coliseum in Lake Charles, La. He was always the “Highlight” of the Rodeo. Thank y’all for sharing his Life with us. We have so many fond memories of days gone by that we will always cherish and forever hold dear to our hearts. Those we hold close to our hearts never truly leave us, they live on in  the kindness they shared and the love & laughter they brought into our lives. Our Goodbyes, to you Lecile is not forever and are not the end, they simply mean, we’ll miss you until we meet again. May you Rest in God’s Heavenly Home where Peace shall surround you. I met Lecile during the 60’s when I was an aspiring Bull Rider. Like everyone else Lecile met, I consider him a close friend. Baxter Black wrote a poem about Lecile and myself called “Two Jumps”. Part of Bax’s poem goes:
“But even a hard luck Cowboy is entitled to one guru
  Whose faith in him is undaunted, whose loyalty stays true blue
    Now, all of the young bronc stompers and bull riders knew Lecile. 
   A rodeo clown and cowboy and hero to all who strapped on the steel. “
    I couldn’t have said it better. Lecile and I visited by phone and emails over the past few years. I had every intention of driving to Collierville today to pay my respects to Lecile and his family, but the cows at Twin Pines had other unexpected plans for me this morning. Lecile would understand. 
It’s a high honor to have Lecile as my guru. 
     I’ll be thinking about Lecile and his family today as I’m strapping on the steel and moving cows.  
    He’ll always remain a big part of my life. I’ll miss you Lecile,

I met Lecile in 1989 at Leesville, La Rodeo.  In 1990 Lecile came to the Rodeo in Lake Charles.  He & Rudy Burns. From 1990 to year 2000 , on Friday of rodeo week, my sisters and I had what we called the Breaux Girl's Rodeo Luncheon ( 5 sisters). We had home cook meals. Gumbo, cajun sausage & gravy, boudin, fried turkey, crawfish in roux gravy, rice, cabbage rolls, mustard greens, crab salad, deviled eggs, carrot cake and german chocolate cake and pies. Sometime if the weather was nice we would picnic out side at the Burton but if the weather was cold & rainy, we were allowed to use the Chalkey Room at the Burton Coliseum.  Lecile, Matt Harris, Rudy Burns, Betty Burns, John Payne (One Arm Bandit), Clay Collins and Travis Adams, Phil Gardenhire, Mike Mathis, Boyd Polhamus, Ronnie & Donnie Sparks, James Harper, Jerry Diaz, Donnie Gay ( Donnie,Rudy, Clay, Travis and I had fun with that cajun apron (made by Sue Broussard of Sweetlake, La.)  Tuff Hedeman,Jerome Davis, Tommy Lucia & Anthony Lucia.  The left over food from Friday luncheon,  we all enjoyed again after the Saturday night performance in Lake Charles.  We had a blast & no one left the rodeo grounds hungry.  For 30 years I packed Lecile &  Matt food every last performance of the rodeo in Lake Charles as they headed home to Collierville.  We had many happy & fun times together with our rodeo family. Now we have lost Lecile. The Breaux Girls are heart broken. One regret that my sisters & I have is that Ms. Ethel came only once to Lake Charles. We would have loved to spend time & get to know the beautiful loving woman that supported Lecile & the mother of sweet Matt.
Our family is deeply hurt for the Harris family & the loss of a great friend, father, grand father & great grand father.
People come & go into our lives and leave foot prints on our hearts and Lecile is one of those people. God bless us all & pray that the memory of Lecile keeps us smiling. We love you Lecile.

So many memories I treasure in my Heart of Lecile.  He was a one of kind Cowboy; an Entertainer to all of us who made us Laugh, Cry, and Love.  During my years on the SLE (Southeastern Livestock Exposition) Rodeo Flag team (1995-2007), as well as other Equine/Rodeo events  (Barrel Racing, etc  ALQHA and ALNBHA); Lecile was always first to kick up the Spirit for the night and give us girls a laugh before we Performed.  Lecile loved his job, loved being Our clown, and loved the Sport of o Rodeo.  But more than that; Lecile Harris so dearly loved his Family, Friends, and all his Fans.  I will so dearly miss Our Lecile, my friend.  A Legend that will always be cherished and shared with others of how Lecile shared with us his Life.  I will always be Appreciative for his Family; especially Ethel Harris who shared him with all of us.  You are an amazing woman, wife, mother, and grandmother, and dear friend Ethel Harris who we love.  Asking God to wrap you in His arms to give you Hope and Peace while He lovingly carries all of You.   (Matthew 5:4) and (John 3:16)

As far as I am concerned rodeo has had the best for a lot of years. Thank you for making it fun ! I will always think of you when I go to or watch a rodeo! Rest In Peace my friend and I will see you one day in Heaven!

Been around since first Franklin Tn Rodeo a long time age  was a treat to see this good man perform at the rodeo  we all loved him My nephew has a son he named Harris after hhim. We all loved him soo much  RIP our friend



He was a legend to Us here in Mississippi we enjoyed going to see him at Dixie Nationals.  He will he missed. He loved our state and our family’s and we loved him RIP

I was saddened at the news of Lecile’s passing. I have grown up watching Lecile at the Dixie National Rodeo and Southern Miss  Classic Rodeo for over 45 years. What a legacy he leaves behind. I enjoyed taking my children and then grandson for the last three years to see Lecile. I will forever cherish the book he signed and the picture with him with my grandson. My grandson has his first cowboy hat that he signed that night. The rodeo will never be the same without him. He will forever be missed. 

Lecile has left memories we will all treasure.  So proud of his success.   He left us all with a smile.

Where do I start. First, my prayers go out to all of Lecile’s family. My heart broke when I heard the news. I have been to the Dixie National Rodeo for over 40 years. I grew up watching and laughing and introduced my children and their children to Lecile. He will always be our favorite Rodeo clown. I’m sure he’s clowning around in heaven now. I’m forever grateful he wrote his book as I treasure it. May he Rest In Peace and May the Lord Bless you all during this time.

I grew up with my Dad taking me to the Ralph Morgan Rodeo from my childhood to taking my own son.  Some of our sweetest memories and biggest laughs are of Lecille. The Rodeo will not be the same without him. Thank you Lecille for the laughter and sweet memories.

I miss leyal Harris. because he was so many years of happy child hood memories.at Rodeo at Mid-South coliseum rodeo. And when  we showed horses at rodeo and 4h sheep.with my own kids. I always loved lecile Harris since I was  young kid .I Grand parents carryed me to Rodeo  at mid south    Fair grounds. We're I first seen do his golf  act and dance with the bulls  yrs.one time I got to me  lecile after the show.thst made my day He was so kind to talk to me.and take a picture of us together. And as I grew up. I took my kids to see lethal too.and my kids loved him ❤️ and meet him to.i talked to him .back in January 2020.and he told that always be my friend. I told him me to. I’ve known Lecile for 48 years and he was the best always a fun time around him and never a dull moment.  He will be missed but he’s with a lot of the great ones who have gone before and probably working on a new act with Quail Dobbs and has Hadley Barrett laughing at both of them.  Well done my friend your the best  I’ll always remember If I need a good laugh all I have to do is pick up your book and read it but now  with laughter and tears.

I was 14 when I began riding  the Loretta Lynn Rodeo Circuit running barrels where Lecile kept everyone in stitches laughing when he preformed Jeremiah Was a Bull Frog an everyone would watch him . To this very day when I hear it I drop an think of him an smile . I got to reconnect at the Rodeo Reunion in Idabel  Okla and I got to take several pics with him an he autographed his book to me . Lecile will always be a great source of joy for our family, and a great friend and inspiration to me - in drumming, telling a good story, and living life fully. The Rodeo of the Ozarks is not the same without his participation. Thank you for sharing him with so many.

My fondest memory of him is a performance of the Ark-La-Miss rodeo at the Civic Center in Monroe in the early 80's. The rodeo crew had eaten at Frank and Janie's restaurant that day and the rodeo crew decided to pull a prank on him. During the rodeo performance he did what I call his piano skits. I think it was the opera singer one where he played the piano. Well, when he had problems with the tuning of the piano he usually reached in to pull a chicken out. This time he looked in and started to reach for it and did a double take and just started laughing. He finally reached in and pulled out a real fish. Someone had gone to the fish market at Frank and Janie's and bought one. He couldn't even finish his lines for laughing.  Everyone really enjoyed him. ONE OF A KIND.  I will surely miss him. Love and prayers to the family.

I didn't know Mr. Lecile personally, but, I saw him several times at the rodeo in Lake Charles, La.  He gave my family and me lots of laughs and good times.   I am praying for your family and asking God to be with you during this hard time.  


I’m from Lake Charles La.  I have always looked followed to the Rodeo here and always loved watching Lecile. He always was so good to his fans here. I have a five year old grandson that we have been taking to the rodeo for three years now loved watching him and still talks about him. He was the my grandsons favorite  prays to your family. I am so sorry for your loss ... and all of rodeo's loss. I enjoyed so much working with Lecile over the years.  I know he is in Heaven entertaining all of our friends  that had gone on before him and I know Hadley Barrett was there to introduce him into Heaven's arena!

I was floored when my wife (Belinda Entrikin Warren) told me the news about Lecile. Lecile was an iconic individual. In his younger days he was the best clown/bullfighter that I ever saw and till the day he passed the best entertainer the rodeo world had. I met Lecile through Kermit Hancock who my father-in-law worked for in Spring Creek, Tn.. Ethel, I wish I could bring you and the family some of Vi's famous baked beans. Charlie, Vi, Belinda and I are praying for y'all. I never met anyone more loved than Lecile. Ever since I heard the news, I can still hear his skits in my mind and probably will for a long time. I could hear his voice and instantly tell you it was Lecile. I considered Lecile a close friend though we had not talked in several years. I met him first as a story idea and for years after we stayed friends. Rodeo. A man named Ronald he said he better know how to fight without being a clown. You halfway there on a  handshake son. People tell stories on  us they can tell em right but never spell our name right. Tryin hard  to laugh.

I first met Lecile in 1958 when we fought bulls in Athens, Alabama
 together. Had the opportunity to travel with him in later years. To show how he could make something from nothing  in 1961 Johnny Clark and I was working Chicago when Leclie and his father in law stopped by on their way North.
During the bullriding Lecile found a pair of coveralls and came into the arena like a drunk. He stole the  show. Ethel and famiily, you had the best of the best, please carry his name forever. RIP my friend.










Back in the early 60's, my father would gather up us 6 kids, take us to the local western store to get new "cowboy/cowgirl outfits" so we could go to the Loretta Lynne Rodeo in Monroe, La, just to see Lecile Harris, who would make us laugh until we cried. There would be Friday night, Saturday afternoon and night and then Sunday shows and we went to all of them, just so we could laugh until our belly's hurt! To this day, I have followed and seen Lecile when he has come back to Monroe. I have the program that he signed back in the '60's from the rodeo that he has "updated" again and again. He brought so much laughter into my heart that I just loved him. I'm 67 years old now and cried like a baby when I saw that he has passed away. I have been praying for his family because I can not imagine the loss you all feel. God bless you all and Ethel, thank you so, so much for sharing your wonderful husband all the years you were married. He was a wonderful man and I know you were all so blessed to spend your life with him. He was one of a kind and I'll never, ever forget him. Ever!

My memories of Lecile go back to 1950 when I started 8th grade at Collierville High School.  We only had one class and Lecile was a member ( there were only 34 graduates in 1955).  You always have one student who is The Class Clown!  Of course, that was Lecile.  He kept us laughing all those years, always serving as the MC for our class reunions.  I have kept up with him thru the years, running into him at Walmart in Collierville and he was always there when we lost a Classmate.   I loved his book, sharing with my family so that they all knew his name.  He may be gone, but he will never be forgotten.  And I am sure he left this world exactly like he wanted.

The first time I saw him about 9 years ago, I thought "this guy is doing what God put him on this earth to do". I have admired his dedication and his ability to show the lighter side of life. I never personally met him, though now I wish I had.  Condolences to the Family and Loved ones.

I have been in rodeo since the 80s and Lecile was there. Then my kids grew up working with him. My youngest daughter Sierra sold books for the last few years and spent his last rodeo by his side . He was a inspiration to her .  We loved him in the rodeo family as much as his own family. 

I wasn’t as fortunate as my husband to watch Lecile from a very young age but when I married him 32 years ago, we saw him at the Midsouth Fair every year. My girls saw him every year & as they got older, we attended Dixie National & saw him there. It was always the highlight to know he was the entertainment. We offer our deepest Sympathy..

I’ve been watching Lecile entertain people at the Dixie National for a long time.  A large number of people went to rodeo just to see Lecile Harris.  He was a class act and there will never be another one like him.  Lecile Rest In Peace, your work here on earth is done.  I can only imagine the fun they are having in heaven right now.  To the Harris family I am keeping y’all in my prayers.  May God put his loving arms around you and comfort you in the days ahead.

I first saw Lecile in Little Rock at the state Fair rodeo when I was very young. I was always afraid of clowns but not Lecile, he was one of the best. I had the privilege of actually getting to meet him and getting to become friends with him when I was older. I got to introduce  my son to him and we went to several of our local rodeos and hung out with him and some other special friends before the rodeo. I will cherish all the memories and am honored to have known such a special man. My prayers are with his sweet family and all the many friends. Gone but never forgotten. Thank you to his family for sharing him with all of us.

Lecile Harris was a first class act. He brought tons of joy to the families that attended the Dixie National Rodeo yearly.  Lecile loved people and loved the rodeo business.

I have loved you ever since I meet you with my mom and dad (Earl and Peggy Fifer).  Dad was judging and working for Longhorn Championship Rodeos back in the 60’s and 70’s Mom seem you last at the BRI Finals in Muskogee about 4 yrs ago. We all just loved you so much. For sure you will never be forgotten. RIP LECILE HARRIS. Prayers for the family.

I will never for get you coming to Jonesboro Arkansas you will be so missed I just loved watching you so many laughs. RIP lots of prayers for the family.

I met Mr.  Harris in 2001 at the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo  here in Colorado Springs.   I had the honor of going to his induction ceremony at the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame.  When he came here to Colorado Springs I was blessed to talk with him.  He even met my Pastor!  I will miss him  but I know he is in a good place now.  Always, Aaron Bryan. 

It's hard to believe Lecile is gone. My children grew up hearing Lecile, Tom Keogh, and Bobby Ballard stories.  He was a true friend and definitely one of a kind.  Though we grew apart as I moved to Maryland, I thought of Lecile often and what an amazing life he had lived and what he had accomplished.  May he rest in peace.  

What a privilege to know Lecile. Our family loved him. The Dixie National will not be the same with him! God bless his family. I hope they know how loved he was by everyone that met him! 

It was the thrill of the rodeo to watch him I've seen him many many times I think I was a little boy about 50   years ago sae him in Wilmer ala rodeo  man I will surely miss him more will not he the same for me at rodeo I was trying to find him fri nite at Jackson ms to get his book but he had already left I hate I didn't do that gonna miss him RIP my favorite 

The first time I ever saw a rodeo clown was in the early 80's at the "Big Level School" rodeo arena, (Stone County) in Big Level, Ms, it was Mr. Lecile Harris.  I was 6-10yrs of age then. My whole life,  we attended different rodeos and was very much entertained by Lecile, what a joy it was to "bust a gut" laughing at his jokes. 
As years passed, he continued to entertain,  including the Dixie National, and we enjoyed the comedy there too. In 2017, my children were introduced to the Legendary King of Clowning. 
Lecile and I reminisced about old times at the rodeos. He basically watched me grow up and I will cherish those moments of talking to him at the rodeos forever.  There will be other rodeo clowns and comedians but no one will ever fill the shoes that Lecile wore.

Our hearts are broken with the loss of Lecile.  For 30 years my sisters and I have  brought food to the rodeo for Lecile in Lake Charles.  For 30 years it was always the same. Deviled eggs, chicken salad, german chocolate cake, crab salad, crackers,popcorn, boudin, 
gumbo, crawfish and roasted peanuts in the shell.
God what a loss. Our prayers are with the Harris family.
