Born on June 13, 1938, Martha was the eldest daughter of Onnie Lee Jackson and Pauline Sue Jackson. She spent her formative years in Columbus, Mississippi, graduating with honors from Lee High School where it was no surprise she was recognized as “Friendliest” during her senior year. She continued her education at Mississippi University for Women (“The W”), graduating Summa cum laude. During her college years, Martha met Gary F. Hoff, who was then stationed at Columbus Air Force Base, and they married in 1961 and were blessed with two children, Jeffrey M. Hoff and Jennifer L. Hoff.
Martha was deeply devoted to her family and excelled in her roles as homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Earlier in life, she traveled extensively with Gary during his Air Force service and took great joy in hosting gatherings for family and friends. Her interests included sewing, cooking, bridge, and gardening; she was particularly known for her immaculate home and unforgettable pecan pies.
A devoted member of Riveroaks Reformed Presbyterian Church, Martha cherished her church community. Her professional life included teaching, substitute work at Evangelical Christian School, and several years with State Farm Insurance, alongside advanced educational pursuits. She eventually retired to care for Gary as they faced his health struggles together.
Martha is remembered for her hospitality, kindness, and unwavering faith. She carried the warmest smile and a gentle, gracious demeanor, and she was always excited about life—loving deeply and serving joyfully. Her genuine compassion, unmistakable sparkle in her eye, and abiding faith endeared her to all who knew her.
She dedicated her life to her husband and family, and her marriage to Gary was marked by mutual respect and a shared commitment to placing God at the center of their lives.
Martha is survived by her children, Jeffrey M. Hoff and Jennifer L. Hoff; two grandsons, J. Harrison Hoff and Henry W. Hoff; and their mother, Shannon Hoff. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Gary F. Hoff; her parents; her sisters, Anne Wright Williams and Sarah Willis Kent; as well as many nieces and nephews. Martha greatly appreciated the dedicated care and companionship provided by Charlyn and Dee. The family extends their sincere gratitude for the commitment and compassion shown to Martha.
