

PIERCE ANDREW THOMAS, 91, died Thursday, October 16, 2014 at the Memphis VA Hospital. Born in Olive Branch, MS, on December 13, 1922, to Virgil and Ida Bell Thomas. Pierce was a WWII veteran and served in the US Army during the Battle of the Bulge receiving a Purple Heart during his service. After an honorable discharge, he returned to Mississippi State University where he completed his degree. During a 48 year career with People’s Bank in Collierville, Pierce was active in several local civic organizations. He loved watching sports, especially MSU football, as well as fishing and playing tennis and was a faithful member of Collierville United Methodist Church. Preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Ward Thomas, and her son, John Simpson (Kendrick), Pierce is survived by Virginia’s children, Joe Simpson (Shelton), Steve Simpson, 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He leaves behind his wife of 9½ years, Margarette Norton Thomas and her children, Keith Norton (Brenda), Greg Norton (Sheila), Patti Norton Crosby, and Pamela Norton Cook (John), 4 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Monday, October 20 at Collierville Methodist Church on the Square at 9 a.m. with a memorial service beginning at 11 a.m. Burial will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery, Memphis.
