Bobby leaves his wife Sally; daughter Mary Catharine (Bobby) Jones; and his brothers William Carruthers & Hunter (Sally) Carruthers.
Bobby was a developer of residential subdivisions in Collierville. He founded Carruthers Ready Mix and Carruthers Insurance Agency. He was named to the Circle Agent Council at Continental Insurance. He was the Vice-President of the Memphis Ready Mix Association in 1983; served on the board of directors of the West Tennessee Chapter of the Tennessee Construction Coalition in 1985 and as President in 1987. He was also President of the Associated Builders and Contractors in 1987. Bobby was also a member of the Collierville Rotary Club (President in 1977) and longtime member of the Collierville United Methodist Church.
Mr. Carruthers cared deeply for others. He delivered "Meals on Wheels" and was always willing to stop a project to help a friend. With all of his commitments, he never lost sight of the importance of friendship. Bobby was a devoted friend and he was attentive to the well being of those that surrounded him.
In his spare time Bobby enjoyed woodworking, golf and traveling with Sally. Bobby & Sally were always the first on the dance floor where they would sashay like Fred Astaire & Ginger Rogers. For many years, Pickwick Lake was a second home. He loved entertaining family and friends at the lake house and in Collierville.
Family and friends will gather for a funeral service this Wednesday, June 9th beginning at two o'clock in the afternoon all at the Collierville United Methodist Church on the Square. Burial will follow in Magnolia Cemetery in Collierville and Dr. Harry Durbin will lead all the services of the day.
The family requests any memorial gifts in Bobby's honor be given to the Collierville United Methodist Church. Online condolences, floral offerings and directions may be found through www.colliervillefuneral.com.
