Robert Orlando Prior, 80, of Collierville passed away on September 12, 2024 surrounded by his beloved family. Born on June 25, 1944 in Memphis, Tennessee, Robert was the cherished son of William and Pauline Prior and the second of three children.
Robert was a proud graduate of Memphis Catholic High School. Following graduation, he began his career at RCA, where he met his future wife, Rosalyn. They fell in love and were married in 1970. Together, they raised two daughters, Dawn and Heather, creating a lifetime of cherished memories.
After RCA, Robert’s career continued at Dover Elevators (now known as ThyssenKrupp Elevators), where he worked until his retirement. While employed full-time at Dover Elevators, he attended night classes at The University of Memphis and earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
A true car enthusiast, Robert took immense pride in his 1967 Jaguar E-Type and enjoyed socializing with his friends in the Memphis British Car Club.
One of his favorite hobbies included woodworking, as exemplified by the beautiful gazebo he crafted himself. His interests also extended to astronomy and meteorology, reflecting his diverse and curious nature.
Robert is survived by two daughters, Dawn Luker (Adam) and Heather Barnes (Chip), as well as his five grandchildren: Daniel Sheppard, Emily Barnes, Dylan Sheppard, Will Sheppard, and Alex Barnes. He is also survived by his brother Billy (Janette) and his sister Paula Talley. Robert was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Rosalyn Prior.
The family would like to thank the many special doctors, nurses, and caregivers who cared for him in the last few weeks of his life.
A private service will be held at Collierville Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Memphis Zoo, to the Sea Turtle Conservancy, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
