

Theodore Francis Powers (Ted) was born May 21, 1937, to Thomas and Eleanor Powers in St. Louis, Missouri, and died on January 27, 2013 at Baptist Hospital in Memphis, TN. He is survived by his wife Shirley LaChance Powers; three sons, Scott Powers (Teresa), Jeffrey Powers (Staci), and Dennis Powers (Holly), and nine grandchildren: Kathleen Powers, Daniel Powers, Kelly Powers, Aidan Powers, Trevor Powers, Laura Powers, Chloe Powers, Cian Powers, and Ronan Powers and one great-grandchild, Alessandro De Longhi; two brothers, John and Lawrence Powers and one sister Eleanor Tshopp. He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, William, Thomas, and Edward Powers.
Ted was raised and educated in St. Louis a lifetime Cardinal baseball fan. He enlisted in the United States Navy and served much of his time on the Island of Guam as a photographer assigned to the Admiral's staff. After his discharge he returned to St. Louis and met his wife, Shirley, and they were married in 1960. His career with the United States Postal Service took him from St. Louis to Dallas and then to Memphis where he worked at the Regional Office in several management positions until he retired in 1993.
Ted was an ordained deacon and member of First Baptist Church Collierville. Through the years he taught Sunday School and served on various committees. He was a skilled woodworker and gardener and loved country living. He considered his greatest achievement to be his family. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be missed every day by all those who love him.
Services will be at First Baptist Church Collierville on Saturday, February 2. Visitation will be at 1 pm and the Funeral Service will begin at 2 pm. The graveside service will follow. Donations in his name can be made to New Day Orphanage, 3112 West Avenue R, Temple, TX 76504.
