

Virginia Rickman Armour, 92, of Byhalia, MS passed from this life Monday night at the Baptist Memorial Hospital of Desoto County. She was born in Charleston, TN on Nov. 29, 1921. Her parents were George Hadley Sims, who died when she was 18 months old, Willie Mae Sims Fortner and A. D. Fortner. Virginia was a graduate of Draughn’s Business College, worked on airplanes and with the U.S.O. at the Kennedy Hospital during WWII. She also worked for Robert Crump Antique”s , the Rendezvous Gift and Antique Shop and owned Julia’s Antiques on Madison Ave. She was the office manager and bookkeeper for the Marshall County Water Department of which she was instrumental in beginning. She also helped to start the Cayce Volunteer Fire Department, Cayce Baptist Church and New Salem Cemetery Corporation. She was currently serving as an Election Commissioner of district 3 where she has served for several years. She is survived by her husband, Joe Weideman Armour, Sr. , son, David Rickman (Teresa), step children; Betsy Armour Gumpert (Al), Sarah Armour Harris (Richard) and Joe Weideman Armour, Jr. (Lynn), grandchildren; Angela Griffith (Brad), Kimberly Schratz (Mark), Lauren Rickman, Ricky Rickman, Amy Datla (Srinivas), Ben Gumpert (Meagan), Rebecca Rodriguez (Bogar), Shelby Dixon (Brendan), Joseph Armour, Harrison Armour, Jane Frances Armour, Lenora Leisure,Victoria Leisure, Deborah Leisure and 6 great grandsons; Henry Griffith, John David Griffith, Nickolas Andrew Dixon, Samuel Edward Dixon, Cooper Allen Gumpert and Fletcher Elliott Gumpert. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a husband, Bob Rickman and a son, John Rickman. The family will receive friends 5pm-7pm, Thursday and 10am Friday at the Collierville Funeral Home, Funeral services will be 11am Friday in The T. Carl Rutledge Memorial Chapel of Collierville Funeral Home with burial in New Salem Cemetery in Cayce, MS.
