

Wesley Browning Highsmith went to be with the Lord on April 22, 2025 at the age of 78. He was born in Memphis but lived the greater part of his life in Collierville, Tennessee. Wesley was a dedicated veteran who bravely served his country in the Vietnam War from 1967-1968. Growing up the son of an avid quail hunter, he was particularly proud of earning the distinction of expert (.45), alongside his recognition as a Marksman (M14).
Following his military service, Wesley pursued higher education, graduating from the University of Memphis with a Bachelor of Science Education as well as completing an Associate of Applied Science in Data Processing at Southwest Community College. Post-Secondary Education was something Wesley deeply valued, and he consistently stressed its importance to his children. For 33 dedicated years, Wesley served as a Systems Analyst at Fred’s Inc. Known for his exceptional problem-solving skills within the company’s systems, Wesley had a knack for achieving what others thought impossible. His colleagues remember him as a great guy, blessed with a sharp wit and keen intelligence.
Beyond his professional life, Wesley had a deep appreciation for music as was evident in his natural drumming ability. He cherished long rides on his Harley Davidson motorcycle alongside his wife and fellow enthusiasts. He frequently expressed how fortunate he felt to be married to someone who shared his love for the open road and NASCAR races. Wesley was an avid fan of all things Harley Davidson, corvettes, NASCAR and Old English Sheep Dogs. His beloved Old English Sheepdog, Weston, became his constant companion and best pal after the passing of his wife, Melody.
Wesley was preceded in death by his wife, Melody Burk Highsmith; his son, Jason Browning Highsmith; and his parents, JT and Pauline Highsmith. He is survived by his children: daughter, Nicole (Matthew) Gaulden of Austin, TX; and stepson Steven (Heather) Reeves of Collierville, TN; his siblings Antoinette (Jim) Davis, and Schelley Childress. Wesley was blessed with five grandchildren: Austin Payne, Ashley (Travis) Feste, Ava and Camden Gaulden; and Bryce Reeves and leaves behind three great grandchildren: Penelope Payne, and Hayes and Emmie Feste. In addition to his children and grandchildren, Wesley is also survived by his sister-in-law, Judy Murchison, his niece, Melissa Carrington, and two grand-nieces, Makayla and Katie Carrington, a testament to the warmth of his connections.
Wesley’s life will be celebrated at the Collierville Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 6th, 2025, with visitation beginning at 11:00 am followed by the funeral service from 12 pm - 1 pm. A committal service will occur Tuesday, May 6th from 2:00 pm to 2:20 pm at West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, 4000 Forest Hill Irene Rd, Memphis, Tennessee 38125.
