Carmen Davila Mercado

Carmen Davila Mercado was born in Lares, Puerto Rico on May 6, 1929 to Jacinto Mercado Soto y Benita Hernandez. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Angel Davila, beloved sisters Maria Mercado & Lydia Mercado, beloved brother Gilberto Mercado and her parents Jacinto and Benita.

Carmen only attended school up to 4th grade and her education stopped because she needed to take care of her siblings and the duties of the house. Carmen worked at Cinelli’s Country House in Cherry Hill, NJ in the 1950’s right after moving from Puerto Rico along with her late father. At Cinelli’s she met her beloved husband Angel who was a chef. Her other workplace was at DiPaola Coat Factory in Camden, NJ in which she worked as a seamstress.

If anyone was ever looking for Carmen, she could always be found taking care of her family, cooking, attending her garden, and watching “novelas.” Certainly, her favorite past time was spending time with her family & making memories. Carmen also enjoyed taking the time every day to call all her sisters, brother, kids & grandkids and in another aspect a dog lover especially to her “Chispy”.  The enjoyment of her loved ones was the laughs, the advices, the proper words in the right time, and how to always keep the strong faith in the Lord.

During the year of 1956, Carmen had met Angel Davila. Of this joining, resulted Carmen Aida Davila, and a late baby boy, who will miss Carmen very much. Previously, Carmen was married to the late, Leoncio Cabrera and from that union they had a baby girl who we all know today as Miriam Serrano.

Carmen is survived by her daughters: Miriam Serrano and Carmen Aida Davila, her grandkids: Mariluz Evans, Tito Angel Cotto, Jennifer Palma and Miriam T. Ochoa; her great-grandkids: Alexis M. Brown, Helena M. Bradley, Douglas Bradley, Ciara E. Arce, Kareliz N. Cotto, Keyliani Cotto and Jeremiah N. Palma; her great-great-grandkids: AJ, Arianna, Natalia, Amari and Jojo. And also survived by her siblings: Gina, Angela, Mariano, Aramita, Juanita and Rosa; and host of other relatives and friends.
