Joan Hayes Jones, 80, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2025. Born on April 7, 1944, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Joan was the youngest daughter of William and Susie Hayes. Joan was educated in the Philadelphia school system and graduated from West Philadelphia High School in 1962. She was an honor roll student and after graduating, she went to the Philadelphia Business School for Office Management.
Joan was a hard worker and dedicated herself to a series of secretarial positions where her efficiency and meticulous attention to detail were evident. Prior to moving to Nevada in 1994, she worked with the National Security Administration (NSA) for over eight years. Throughout her life, Joan demonstrated an unwavering compassion by opening her home to disabled adults, providing them with a nurturing, supportive environment where they felt safe and cared for. Ultimately, she embraced a fulfilling role as a teacher's aide—a position from which she retired with pride, having positively impacted the lives of countless students.
Joan was a devoted Jehovah's Witness, and her unwavering faith guided her actions, offering her strength, comfort, and a deep sense of community throughout her life. Her journey in love saw her embrace multiple marriages, and from these unions, she was blessed with two children who brought her joy. Her final union was with Lewis E. Jones with whom she shared 26 years of companionship.
Joan was a vibrant soul, funny and a joy to be around. Her life was filled with a passion for sewing, dancing and spending time with her grandchildren. Whether she was sewing a beautiful outfit or “bopping” across the floor, Joan always found creative ways to express herself. Her graceful spirit and her enthusiasm for simple pleasures brought warmth and light to those who knew her. Joan also valued staying connected with her family and often reached out to loved ones whenever she was in town. Though she is deeply missed, her legacy of kindness, and joy lives on in every fabric she touched and every dance step she took.
She is survived by her children, Danelle (Bobby) and Donna (Kareem); her grandchildren, Aubrē and Kareem, Jr.; her sister Shirley Barnard and brother William M. Hayes, Jr. along with a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her spouse, Lewis E. Jones, her parents, and sisters Alberta and Marilyn.
A memorial service will be held on March 15, 2025, at 10 am at Blake-Doyle Funeral Home in Collingswood, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
