Born in Fredericksburg, Virginia on August 19, 1944, to John Bruce and Mary Elizabeth Hailstalk, Suzanne lived a life defined by music and education. Whether she was teaching children in her early career, singing in her church choir, or dancing to lobby music in her later years, she loved music.
Suzanne graduated as her high school's salutatorian and attended Virginia State University on a tennis scholarship. During her college years, she balanced performing clarinet with the orchestra and a commitment to the Civil Rights Movement, participating in numerous peaceful sit-ins and marches.
After beginning her career as an elementary music teacher, Suzanne served with the U.S. Department of the Treasury training adult instructors, which eventually took her to Colorado and later Texas. Upon retiring, she returned to Virginia to run her own childcare center before eventually moving to New Jersey to care for family and manage an antique auto storage facility.
Suzanne is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Jennifer Bogle of Blaine, Washington, and her three grandchildren.
