Adolph “Gene” Sebben entered eternal life on May 7, 2026, peacefully and surrounded by his loved ones. Gene was born on February 24, 1939, in Sopris, Colorado, to Adolph Sr. and Mary Ida Sebben. Gene was husband to Barbara and father to three children – Deborah, Jeffrey, and Michelle and brother to Ron and sister Patti.
Gene met his wife of 67 years, Barbara, in Trinidad, CO, and they moved to Raton, New Mexico, then to Colorado Springs in 1966, where he spent the next 35 years building a successful insurance business. He retired in 2001 and spent the next several years enjoying fly fishing, hunting, and being “Papa” to his grandchildren.
Gene loved baseball and was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying, fly fishing and hunting, passions passed down from his father and passed on to his wife, children and grandchildren. Although he and Barbara traveled extensively, his favorite spot was high in the Colorado mountains at Timberlake Fishing Club where he cherished the peacefulness of fly fishing and the thrill of catching and releasing many large trout and an occasional bear sighting.
Gene was a devoted family man. Family came first, and he was always there to lend a helping hand, give support, and pass along family traditions. He loved to cook, and the family always looked forward to Sunday gatherings around a huge bowl of his special spaghetti and meatballs. He had many pets throughout his life, but his cat Chapin (“Chapie”) held a special place in his heart. Chapin accompanied them on many fishing trips and dutifully sat on his leash, enjoying the mountain air.
Gene had a deep faith and attended Mass regularly at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Colorado Springs. He found comfort in carrying the rosary beads he received from his mother in his pocket, knowing that one day they would be reunited.
He will be deeply missed by his beloved family and friends. A rosary and funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. The rosary will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by the funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. A luncheon will follow at Hope House.
A private inurnment will be held at St. Mary’s Cathedral Columbarium. Donations can be made in his name to Bloom Flourish Thrive Foundation at https://bloomhealthcare.com/foundation/ to honor the compassionate hospice workers who were so instrumental in bringing comfort to Gene and his family during his illness.
In God’s care, in our hearts forever.
