

Alyce Johnson Simonsen passed away in Colorado Springs. CO on August 14, 2012 after a lengthy illness. She was born on November 11, 1922 to Art and Clara Johnson and attended Elko schools and the University of Nevada. She worked for Elko County for many years, serving in both the Recorder’s and Welfare offices and was active in St Paul’s Episcopal Church. She was an accomplished cook and homemaker and friends and family alike enjoyed her gracious hospitality. She will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to her family, both the two-legged and the four-legged variety.
She was predeceased by her parents, her siblings (Margaret Johnson Puccinelli, Jane Johnson Maund, and Ted Johnson), and her husbands Ernie Simonsen and Paul Hankins.
She is survived by her three children: Mike (wife Jeanie) of Tyler, TX, Jane (husband Kent Callahan) of Seattle, WA, and Tracey (husband Jim Prior) of Colorado Springs, CO. She leaves behind 3 grandchildren: Matt Simonsen (Elaine) of Elko, Jack Simonsen (Jaime) of Elko, and Meggie Callahan of Seattle, and several nieces, nephews, great and great-great grandchildren.
Donations can be made in Alyce’s memory to the Northeastern Nevada Museum or The Humane Society.
