Audrey LaVonne Madison Greene, aged 82, passed away on Sunday, April 27, 2025, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Born on August 4, 1942, in Luverne, Minnesota, she lived in various locations throughout her life, including Coronado, San Jose, and Sacramento in California, as well as Chagrin Falls, Ohio. Audrey earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Home Economics from California State University, Sacramento. Audrey often expressed her pride in her Home Economics degree, stating, “that’s what I do.” She also worked as a bank teller in both Luverne and San Diego. Throughout her life, Audrey was passionate about herb gardening and had a keen interest in collecting miniature dolls and antiques.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Orval and Mabel Madison, and her two younger brothers, Merlin and Lloyd Madison. She is survived by her husband, Captain Kenneth Greene, USN (retired), with whom she shared 59 years of marriage; daughter, Penelope Greene Hovey, and her husband, Richard Hovey and her older brother, Charles Madison.
In her final days, Audrey received exceptional care at Garden Ranch Assisted Living in Colorado Springs, where she was well cared for by the staff and especially Maggie, the house Golden Retriever, who during her last days rarely left her bedside. Her legacy will be cherished by her family and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025, in the Grace Lutheran Church, 500 N. Kniss Ave, Luverne, MN, at 2:00 PM with Pastor Sarah Zender officiating, followed by a gathering of family and friends where refreshments will be served.
