Dene, at 19, married Ralph Thompson on September 10, 1950, in Morocco, Indiana. They were married 59+ years until his passing January 25, 2010. Dene was the consummate, nuclear housewife and immaculate homemaker. She intermittently worked in the 1950’s at Western Condenser in Watseka, Illinois, and Noonan’s Café counter downtown Colorado Springs while being a military wife. Dene was a school room mother while raising two sons. A favorite family fact she enjoyed was the location of the decimal point at the identical birth costs of her two sons: David, born in a military hospital, at $5.25 and Duane, born in a civilian hospital, at $525.00.
In 1978, after moving the family from Bradley Illinois to Colorado Springs, she and Ralph owned and operated The Thompson Towing Co. Later she was the Bookkeeper for Mobile Home Parks they managed together. In semi-retirement, she conducted surveys for Rocky Mtn Research. When widowed she joined the Red Hat Society Chapter of The Chicks with Panache and was known as Princess Bling Bling.
Her 94th Birthday was Celebrated over a few days dining at The Broadmoor Hotel with her Son Duane, her Niece Susan (Whaley) Chestnut (husband Larry) and Nephew Ron Whaley (life mate Joanne).
Dene is survived by her sons David Thompson (wife Dagmar) of Monument, CO and Duane Thompson of Colorado Springs, CO. Preceding her in death were her parents of Morocco Indiana, her brother Leonard Whaley of Rensselaer Indiana, and her husband Ralph A. Thompson of Colorado Springs.
