Barbara Joan (Vaughn) Farrell, 94, passed into the arms of Jesus on March 3, 2025. Joan was born May 17, 1930 in Colorado Springs to Ottilia (Ebb) and Clarence Vaughn. She attended school at Lowell, Ivywild and Colorado Springs High School (now Palmer High). In 1952, she graduated from the University of Colorado in Boulder, where she was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority.
On April 10, 1954, she married Howard Farrell at Grace Church in Colorado Springs. Joan began teaching first grade students in District 11 at Taylor Elementary, later teaching at Edison Elementary. After 25 years, she retired in 1988.
Joan played in several bridge clubs, was a docent for the Pioneer Museum, volunteered many hours at the Episcopal Women’s Thrift Store, and hosted a weekly Bible study in her home. She was very active in church ministry, with the St Andrews street dinner ministry in Manitou having a special place in her heart.
Some years after her husband passed away, she reconnected with her childhood sweetheart, Ed Lohman. They spent many years sharing memories of those early days and enjoying each other’s company with a deep renewal of their love.
Joan is survived by her dear friend and second love, Ed Lohman, her three daughters Kim (Gary) Tate, Valerie Williams and Linda Fladland, and her son Howard (Rhonda) Farrell. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren (with one more expected very soon!), a niece Kellye Vaughn, and other relatives and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Rick and a niece Leslie Vaughn. Joan will be missed by many, but we rejoice that she has entered her eternal home.
A celebration of life for Joan will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Pioneer Museum, 215 S. Tejon, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
