Bertha, Bert, to her friends and family, left us on November 23, 2020. Bertha was a wonderful and caring sister to a large family! Losing her mother at an early age, she cared for her siblings and they for her. She leaves behind two beautiful sisters, Mary Louis Dean (John) and Guadalupe Davidson (David). When Bert was with her sisters she would giggle and laugh just like a girl. Her sisters gave her great joy, devotion and love!
Bertha was married to Candelario J. Lucero on October 27, 1955. Candelario preceded Bertha in Death on December 23, 2009. Bertha and Candelario had 4 daughters, Marie (Steven Bennett), Elizabeth (Dan Christian), Lynn (Richard Jones) and Kimberly (Tracey Case). Marie and Kim preceded Bertha in death. Bertha’s daughters gave her ten grandchildren, who also provided Bert with a multitude of great grandchildren - a true source of joy and pride to her.
Bertha loved God and would speak to her savior every day, many times a day! She continually prayed for healing and for her family by name. Bertha loved to read, play games and enjoyed singing and music. She loved to do puzzles and play scrabble and cards. Hangman was a favorite, with funny pictures drawn and some creative spelling. Bert enjoyed her “Cowboy” movies and would frequently watch them along with Perry Mason, Gunsmoke and the Virginian. She enjoyed Audie Murphy, “Marshal Dillon” and “Festus” and had a crush on “Travis”. Bert would sit on the deck and watch the birds and squirrels and would frequently take treats out to them. Her favorite romance movie was “Bridges of Madison County” which she enjoyed watching multiple times a day! Bert also enjoyed the occasional trip to Cripple Creek and listening for the machines to call her name.
Bert loved a good meal and when younger always had food in the home to share with whoever may drop in. She enjoyed eating out and having cake! She enjoyed watching people eat and never let them go away hungry! Bert made the best tortillas on the planet!
Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul.
He guides me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life,
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
