Bettie was raised in Catonsville, Maryland, where she would later graduate from high school there in 1963.
Following graduation, she joined the United State's Women's Army Corps (WAC) that same year, and would be trained as a Certified Nursing Assistant in service to her country. During her years of service, she would be stationed in many different places, to include Anniston, Alabama in 1963, Long Beach, California from 1963-1964, Frankfurt, Germany 1964-1965.
While stationed in Frankfurt, Germany, she married the love of her life, David, in a private ceremony in Basel, Switzerland on June 1st, 1965. Just a few days later, David and Bettie welcomed friends and family for their wedding ceremony in Frankfurt, Germany on June 4th, 1965. The two would be happily married for 57 years, 6 months, and 28 days.
In the first year of their marriage, while stationed in Germany, they would welcome their first born, Lisa. One year later, the two welcomed their second child, a son, David Jr. A few years later, in 1973, while serving in Wuerzburg, Germany, the couple would welcome their third child, Dawn.
During Bettie's lifetime, she was passionate about her family and friends, as well as her service to her community as a volunteer for the Security Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. During the 20 years she would serve her community in this role, she held many titles and bore many responsibilities, one of which was becoming the president of this organization.
In 2008, Bettie finished her career in Civil Service and retired after a total of 32 years working for the U.S. Government. In her retirement, Bettie could be found loving and enjoying every moment she could spend with her children, 7 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild.
