

Boice Ames Whiting was born on March 19, 1930, in Pocatello, Idaho, to Lemuel Alma (Jay) andMarcena Ames Whiting, as the 10th of 12 children.Born on his grandmother Ames' birthday, she chose to name him 3 surnames.
Boice graduated from McCammon High School in 1949, where he actively participated in sports. In1950, he joined the Air Force, shortly before the Korean War began. Serving as a combat medic, he flew medical air evacuations for three years in Korea and Japan, also spending time in Hawaii, the Philippines, and other Pacific Islands. He returned to the U.S. in 1953 and was stationed on the East Coast in New Brunswick, NJ, and New York City, NY,before returning to Japan for a three-year tour.
During this time, Boice and his first wife, Linda,adopted Bryan Allen Whiting in 1966, and he became a stepfather to Larry Smallwood. He transitioned into a career in manpower, eventually moving into management and engineering, where he worked until his retirement in 1976.
After divorcing Linda in 1971, he remarried in 1972 to his second wife, Ottie. Together, they welcomed two children: Boice Ames Whiting, born on September 16, 1973, who sadly preceded him in death at four months old, and Ed Ames Whiting,born on July 15, 1974. He cherished his role as a stepfather, embracing the responsibility of helping raise Renate, Robert, and Debbie.
He married Dolores (Dee) Kappel-Wagner on April 30, 1976, blending their families and enjoying 48 happy years together. Following his retirement, Boice pursued welding and worked in that field for several years. Boice had a passion for collecting coins, working on cars,and crafting birdhouses, anvils, and puzzles.Together, he and Dee, enjoyed square dancing,bowling, playing cards, antiquing, and making trips to Cripple Creek. They cherished their time spent together and with family and friends.
Boice was preceded in death by his parents Lemuel and Marcena Whiting. His five brothers:Arch, Russell, Reece, Calvin, and Leon, and six sisters: Grace, Juanita, Dellcene, Rachel, Donna,and Shirley. His son Boice Whiting and his in-laws Charles and Virginia Kappel.
Boice is survived by his his wife Dolores Whiting.His children and stepchildren: Ed Whiting, Bryan Whiting, Larry Smallwood, Renate Boettcher,Debbie Garret-Bergman, Robert Garret, Mark Wagner, and Jandra (Jan) Cooley. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Jason(Angelica) Wagner, Chelsea (Nick) Reinhard,Kayla (James) Eblin, Mckenzie Shoff, Rebecca Boettcher, Jennifer Boettcher, and Matthew O’Donnell. He also leaves behind several great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside service with military honors will be, Friday, April 18, 2025 at 2pm at Pikes Peak National Cemetery, 10545 Drennen Road, Colorado Springs, CO, 80925.
