Curtis was an enthusiastic teacher, lecturer, composer, and pianist who dedicated himself to spreading curiosity and joy while maintaining a commitment to excellence. He savored life and lived it as fully as he could to the end, always seeking new ways to enrich himself. Curtis lived a full and remarkable life and we will miss him dearly.
Curtis was born in Washington, D.C. on November 28, 1946 and is survived by his wife Susan, brother Dean, son Dean and daughter-in-law Tania, and grandchildren Miles and Elina.
The family is planning a memorial so friends and loved ones can gather and honor him - when that date is chosen, it will be spread widely. In the meantime, the family believes Curtis would approve of everyone taking a moment to celebrate life, and his in particular.
The family humbly requests that in lieu of flowers, friends and loved ones consider donating to a cultural institution of their choosing."
