

David Vandegriff (80), a longtime resident of El Paso County passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus at his home while receiving hospice care on July 21, 2016. He was born in Muncie, Indiana to Verlan and Viola (Turpin) Vandegriff. David graduated from Selma High School and went on to Purdue University. He served in the Army for two years before marrying the love of his life, Sue, and they have been married for over 54 wonderful years. David worked as a steel estimator for over 40 years. David was an avid horseshoe pitcher with a few city championship wins. He loved square-dancing, fishing and boating, belonged to the PPJAS Society, and was a member at Woodmen Valley Chapel. All who knew him were inspired by his giving spirit and love of family and friends. He and Sue wintered in Florida and Arizona for years. They also traveled to Israel and took cruises to Alaska and the Caribbean. Survivors include his wife, Sue; children, Jennifer Mitcheltree (Todd), David Vandegriff, Jr. (Selena); 6 grandchildren, Amber, Leslie (Jason), James (Yvette), Matthew, Tyler (Brooke), Trevor; 7 great-grandchildren; siblings, Budd Vandegriff (Barb) of Fischers, Indiana, Joe Vandegriff (Elaine), of Lago Vista, Texas, Janice Burt (Don), of Sandy, Utah; as well as many nieces and nephews. A celebration of David’s life will be held on Wednesday, August 3rd at 10 am at Woodman Valley Chapel at Woodmen Heights, NE corner of Woodmen and Marksheffle.
