Don was born in High Point, NC but spent most of his growing up years in Ft. Lauderdale FL. He joined the Air Force after graduating high school and served in Japan, Spain, Korea and Vietnam conflict. He retired after 24 years of service and settled in the Phoenix, AZ area. He also lived in Clendenin, WV for a few years before moving to Colorado Springs in May of 2006.
He is survived by former spouse Marcia A. Fields, son Don B. Fields, Jr., daughter Carla C. Fields and son Brian G (Amanda) Fields. Also survived by beloved grandchildren Dominic G. Fields of Cody WY; Noah P. Fields and Nicholas A. Fields of Junction City KS.
Don was an avid walker. According to his meticulous records, in 11 years' time, he walked 15,408 miles!
A traditional Roman Catholic and faithful to the unchangeable doctrinal teachings of Holy Mother Church and to the Tridentine Latin Mass. Don knew the importance of devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary thus he prayed the Rosary daily. He passed away on the First Saturday which was the feast day of great St. Athanasius, Bishop, Confessor and Doctor of the Church.
A Funeral Service with full military honors was held on Monday, May 11, 2015 at Fort Logan Cemetery.
