Donald Lee Might was born March 27, 1959 in Colorado Springs to Jack and Virginia (Ginny) Might. He passed away March 11, 2023. He was a graduate of Cheyenne Mountain High School and attended Pikes Peak Community College and the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs.
He was a certified optician starting out working for his father at the family business, Pikes Peak Optical Company, which was started by his grandfather around 1939. He also worked for Dr. Carl Wetzig as an ophthalmic tech and was the manager of the optical shop there. Donnie was the owner of Aspen Grove Tack, making custom tack and doing tack repairs for hunter and jumper horses. When he became unable to travel around the country to horse shows due to illness, he continued to do tack repair and also took on working at Dick’s Sporting Goods in sales and as a golf specialist.
Donnie was a natural when it came to sports. He started figure skating and skiing at the age of two and became a competitive figure skater in singles and in pairs and dance with his twin sister, Debbie. He played hockey for Cheyenne Mountain High School and according to good friends, they still tell of his tremendously hard slap shots which they felt best to avoid! He was a National Junior Curling medalist with his Broadmoor Curling Club teammates, won a skeet shooting championship in college, was an excellent golfer with a single-digit handicap and made a hole-in-one at the Broadmoor Golf Club. He was also an expert fly fisherman which was a sport he really loved. His favorite times were spent in the mountains of Colorado with his very close friends camping, hunting with bow and arrow, fishing (even ice fishing) and skiing.
Donnie was a lot of things, but most of all he was kind and funny, loved to laugh and always had good stories to tell. He was a real people person and probably never met a person he couldn’t get into a conversation with him.
He was a kidney transplant recipient. Special thanks to Dr. Scott Davis for his kindness, compassion and caring through the five years following transplant and through his very trying final days of illness. We also thank the ICU doctors and nursing staff at Porter Adventist Hospital who provided such amazing and compassionate care while Donnie was there. Save a life. Please consider being an organ donor and make your wishes known.
Donnie is survived by his significant other, Diane Nunn, his twin sister Debra Might (Mark Steinberg) and nephew, Douglas Might. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Jack D. and Richard Alan.
A funeral will be held on Saturday, March 25th at 10:00 A.M. at Grace & St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 601 N. Tejon St. A private burial will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to the American Kidney Fund, kidneyfund.org.
