

Doris Rystrom Grimm passed away on March 3, 2022 at Brookdale Skyline in Colorado Springs where she resided for the last 11 years. She was born May 9, 1922 in a farm home southeast of Stromsburg, Nebraska. Her parents were Raymond W. Rystrom and Ethel C. Rathkey. She had fond memories as a young girl on the farm, feeding the chickens and the cats and trekking through the snow to school.
She attended the first eight grades at Willow Hedge school, a one room schoolhouse. She graduated from Stromsburg High School in May 1939 as valedictorian. She then attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln from 1939 until May 1940. In 1940 she was employed at Allen Hospital in Waterloo.
Doris enrolled at Iowa State University from September 1940 until July 1944 when she graduated with a B.S. degree in Home Economics Education. She taught high school home economics and high school biology at Parkersburg High School from 1944 until 1945. She then taught high school home economics at Jesup High School until June 1950.
On July 30, 1950 she was united in marriage to John Ott Grimm. They made their home in Denver, Colorado. They were married almost 69 years. For their 60th anniversary they celebrated in the presence of four children, 4 children-in-law, seven grandchildren and one great grandson.
Doris actively contributed to her community. She was a member of Warren United Methodist Church. Doris served as a Sunday School Teacher, Circle Chairwoman and as a volunteer at Warren Village. She was a Girl Scout Leader for all of her daughters, a Cub Scout den mother for her son and was active in the school P.T.A. After moving to assisted living in Colorado Springs, she served on the building welcoming committee. Doris loved sewing and gardening and was especially proud of her peonies.
Doris is preceded in death by her parents, her two brothers, her husband and 20 cousins. She is survived by one cousin, Sterling Anderson (Stromsburg, NE).
Doris was a loving, attentive mother and grandmother. She is survived by all four of her children: Roger (Arlynn) Grimm (Livermore, CA), Karen (Lionel) Lucero (Albuquerque, NM), Linda (Tom) Willits (Aurora, CO), Rebecca (Al) Wegner (Colorado Springs, CO); two step grand-daughters: Valerie Siska Dalacqua, Ginger Siska; 7 grandchildren: Christine Grimm, John (Cate) Willits, Rebekah (Andy) Slegl, Christina (Jordan) Hannah, Belinda Lucero, Sydney Wegner, Spencer Wegner. 9 great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Ellen-Marie Rystrom, 3 nephews and 2 nieces.
Burial will be on Thursday, March 17 at 1:00 p.m. at Fairmount Cemetery in Denver. Her grandchildren Ginger, Becky, Tina, Belinda, Sydney and Spencer will be her pall bearers.
