Edwin Eugene Doerffel, Jr. (October 19, 1952 – November 10, 2025). Ed was born in Independence, Missouri and raised in Colorado Springs, Colorado where, in his early teens, he learned to golf, which became his passion throughout the rest of his life. Ed was a prolific golfer, walking onto the New Mexico State University golf team as a freshman, and then receiving a full-ride scholarship for the three years thereafter. It was at NMSU where he met the love of his life and soulmate, Kristen. They married in December 1975, and had two daughters, Alison and Jessica. Ed was a professional in every sense of the word and promotions at Super-Valu had his family move several times, from Colorado Springs to Great Falls, Montana, to Billings, Montana, to Des Moines, Iowa, to Saint Louis, Missouri, and back to Colorado Springs, Colorado. Though they moved frequently, family and golf were the two constants in his life. Ed became a professional golfer. Once he got his amateur status back, he won Montana’s 1989 Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship. He traveled the world playing different golf courses and loved the many friends he met on the courses.
Ed changed careers in the early 2000s and became a successful financial advisor. In 2021, he retired and along with his wife, Kris, moved to Highlands Ranch, Colorado to be close to their daughters and two grandkids. Ed found tremendous joy in attending all of his grandkids’ events, especially teaching them to play golf and pool. He lived to caddy for his oldest grandson, James, and play countless hours of pool with his youngest, Bennett.
Along with family and golf, Ed loved music, road trips, being outdoors, and creating memories with his wife and daughters, which expanded to sons-in law, and grandchildren. Ed was selfless and loved bringing happiness to all he came into contact with. His family and friends will forever miss him and the great things he brought to this world. Ed is survived by his wife, Kristen, daughters Alison (Chris), Jessica (Andy), his grandchildren, James and Bennett, and his brother Dave (Ann). Private memorial services will be held at a later date. If so inclined, donations can be made to PGA REACH Colorado Foundation, which impacts lives through the game of golf.
