She was born August 12, 1925 in Carnoustie, Scotland to William and Jessie Mason. Two years later, Ethel's father William brought his young family to America. William was the assistant golf professional at Carnoustie Country Club and was hired by the Cheyenne Wyoming Country Club to be their golf professional.
Ethel attended the University of Wyoming, where she met and married the love of her life, Theophile "Ted" Weber, on August 24, 1947. For 21 years, their life partnership grew and flourished into a beautiful marriage, a thriving oil and gas business and law practice. Ted preceded Ethel in death, unexpectively passing away on July 5, 1968. Ethel is survived by her son, Theodore "Ted" Weber, and the apple of her eye; her grandson, Cody Weber.
Ethel went on to pursue many diverse business endeavors, including oil and gas interests, a film processing company called Colorado Color, real estate, and Thoroughbred and Appaloosa breeding. She was known and respected for her integrity, hard work, and determination.
She was an avid sportsperson and athlete for most of her life. Ethel could shoot hoops, cast a fly rod, fire a gun, ride a horse, and roll a bowling ball. Her true passion was playing golf, beginning early in life and lasting until health issues forced her to stop. She was a life-long Denver Broncos fan; muttering about loses, cheering wins, and dancing a Scottish jig when they finally achieved their first Super Bowl win.
Ethel will be remembered as a caring, loving mom and grandmother, always there when needed. She provided a strong shoulder, sage advice, and reassuring hugs. The Golden Rule, looking and doing your best, being a good sport, and helping others in need, was her code of conduct.
She had a life that was well lived and she will be greatly missed by all that loved and knew her. A special thanks to the staff at Liberty Heights Assisted Care Unit for their dedicated care to my mom. A heartfelt appreciation to Maureen Christopher and Cody, who are loved more than words can describe.
A memorial service is planned for 3:00 pm, Thursday, December 30, 2010 at Swan Law Funeral Director's, 501 North Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions in Ethel's name to the charity of your choice.
