

Fred was born in Rush, Colorado on July 27, 1908. He was the fourth of nine children born to Earl and Rosa (Cumpton) Reed. He attended Columbine School from the first through eighth grade before transferring to Miami School to complete his high school education graduating in May of 1927.
Fred married Edna Pearl Phelps on February 26, 1930. To this union they were blessed with two children; a daughter, Elva and son, Charles. Together they farmed and raised cattle, chickens, hogs, and many gardens. Fred and Pearl enjoyed 79 years of marriage before her passing on September 12, 2009. Fred retired from farming the summer of 1994. He became a centurion on July 27, 2008. The Reed Family Farm was recognized as a Centennial Farm on August 28, 2009.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, his wife, Pearl, and daughter, Elva Oehlschlager. Fred is survived by his son, Charles (Jeanne) Reed of Yoder; son-in-law, Jack Oehlschlager of Poteau, OK; four grandchildren, Jackie (Ronnie) Schornick; Ronnie (Christy) Oehlschlager; Charlene (Larry) Gifford; Amanda (Kevin) Gregg; four great-grandchildren, Marie Schornick; David & Susan Oehlschlager; Tyler Gregg; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held to honor Fred's life on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 10:00 AM at the Living Word Church in Calhan, Colorado. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Colorado Springs. Public viewing will be on Friday, May 20, 2011 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Swan Law Funeral Home. Memorial contributions can be made in Fred's honor to Pikes Peak Hospice or a charity of your choice.
