Gail Marie Scott passed away peacefully at her home in Monument, Colorado at age 77 on November 2, 2022.

Gail was born in Tacoma, Washington on July 11, 1945 to Louis and Eleanor VonDerGathen. She was the first of five girls in the family. Gail grew up in Portland, Oregon and graduated from Franklin High School. During high school she worked at the downtown branch of U.S. Bank through a program sponsored by the high school. She continued to work at U.S. Bank after graduation until she moved to Inglewood, California for several years before moving to Colorado Springs, Colorado which became her home.

Gail is survived by her husband of 42 years, retired CSPD Lieutenant Alan Scott and their son, police Sergeant Marc Scott. Also surviving are her four sisters Karen Smith, Linda Hagen, Judy VonDerGathen and Kathy Schork.

Gail loved that, on most days in Colorado the sun comes out. She enjoyed going to the mountains, whether it was for camping or ‘roughing it’ in a cabin. Gail particularly enjoyed visits to the mountains hot springs.

Gail worked in several dental offices and at the Colorado Springs Police Department, where she met her husband Alan. They have one son, Marc, who brought them much joy. Gail loved being a stay at home Mom and wife. She was a natural mother due to her kind, loving and patient spirit. She enjoyed volunteer work knitting items for newborns at the local hospital.

Gail had a very giving heart, supporting a number of local and national charities for years. She and Alan enjoyed Square Dancing and had a great time dressing up in Western outfits for it. Gail was a jogger for a time but problems with her knees caused her to have to give it up. She loved dogs. She and Alan provided a loving home to a half dozen dogs over the years.

For many years she and Alan and Marc traveled to Oregon to visit her parents and sisters, nieces and nephews. They loved staying on the Oregon Coast for a week on each trip to Oregon. Gail developed health problems as she got older but faced them with determination and grace. She was a devout Christian and kept her faith throughout her life. She truly had the “Fruits of the Spirit” as detailed in Galatians 5:22-23.

Gail was not only beautiful on the outside but especially on the inside. She was loved by so many people and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She is now with Jesus and reunited with her family members who have gone before and her precious pets.

"October 01, 1978 - Coming into the northern part of Wyoming and the Grand Teton National Park, the dry desolate land burst into an array of autumn colors with trees turning yellow, orange, and red. With the sun setting behind the clouds turning some pink and others truly looked as though they had a silver lining. We spent our first night in the neatest log cabin and woke up to a beautiful sunny day with a view of the majestic Grand Teton mountains (looking as though they could touch the sky) towering over a beautiful clear blue lake. The fall air was crisp and clean, and the morning temperature was 29 degrees. Those Teton mountains were like none that I had ever seen before… They seemed to come out of the ground right of the ground in a never ending search for the heavens. Their jagged snow-covered peaks would be a challenge to any adventuresome mountain climber." ~ Written by Gail Marie Scott
