Harold Douglas Addington

He was born to A.P. Addington and Ozell Vandiver Smith and he lived his early childhood in Northern Mississippi, Illinois, and Wyoming, before he moved to Colorado Springs at age 11. After attending Palmer High School, he served in the United States Marine Corps from 1959-1963. In 1967, he married his wife of 56 years, Mary Addington, and they moved to Black Forest, where they resided until his death.

Harold worked at many jobs during his lifetime, including as an officer for The Pikes Peak Humane Society, in sporting goods sales, and security, but he is most known for being the proprietor of Black Forest Videos in the 1980s and the 1990s.

Harold was an expert and collector of historic firearms, especially those of the Old West. He enjoyed history, photography, music, and movies. He loved the outdoors and was an avid angler and hunter, although spending the time with friends was more important than making a catch.

Harold also loved to travel, especially on tall sailing ships, and he visited nearly every country in the Caribbean. Some of his best friends were animals, including his many dog companions, who he loved dearly.

Harold is preceded in death by his sister Perlene Francisco, and by his son, Steven Addington. He is survived by his wife Mary Addington, his children Bonnie Stapleton (John Hubbard), Rebecca (James) Bilodeau, and half siblings John Addington and Liane Fehrle. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren: Samantha Stapleton, Robin Bilodeau, Maxwell Bilodeau, and Jeremy Bilodeau; and a great grandson Jayden Stapleton Lambert. We would also like to acknowledge his lifelong friends and “brothers” James Dennis and Wayne Clemons.

Viewing will take place January 12, 2024 at Swan Law, 501 North Cascade in Colorado Springs from 5-7 pm. Interment will take place with military honors on January 15, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at Eastonville Cemetery at Meridian and Latigo Roads in Black Forest, to be followed with a memorial service and gathering at the Black Forest Community Center: 12530 Black Forest Rd. at 11:30.
