Helen Lorraine Lewton passed away peacefully in the morning of August the 5th of 2023. Helen was born on the family's farm in Eastern Colorado on May 6th, 1932, to Frank and Jennie Travis. She was the youngest of the family's 5 children. Helen grew up on the family farm through high school and remained there until her marriage to Gene Lewton on June 3rd, 1951. Through this upbringing she developed a strong will and fortitude that carried her through the years. Initially during their marriage, Helen meticulously managed their home and made sure that it was a comfortable and well cared for space. Helen and Gene were blessed with two children, a girl and a boy. Helen lovingly cared for Sandy and Jim and saw them off through their school years and on to marriage and families of their own. As the children grew to school age, Helen took on a career with Mountain Bell telephone company. Gene and Helen cared for their family deeply, built a picturesque home, and eventually retired after about thirty years with the telephone company. Over the years, Helen continued to curate a welcoming home that enjoyed the presence of their friends, grandkids, great grandkids, and many other loved ones. Among the founding members of their church, they played a substantial role in the building and developing the Salem Baptist Church (now Grace Mountain Church). They are deeply respected members and their legacy with the body of the church is enduring. Helen and Gene enjoyed their retired years in their unique house in the heart of Colorado Springs with breathtaking views of the front range of Pikes Peak. Helen is survived by her devoted husband Gene, her daughter Sandy Maurer, grandchildren AJ Lewton, Daniel Maurer, Chris Lewton, and Kara Lewton, and 8 energetic great grandchildren. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes any donations to be made to Grace Mountain Church in her memory.
