
Jack filled his life with art, family, and a love for people. He met Carol Foster at Iowa State University, where she roomed with his sister Kathleen. Jack and Carol were married in 1943, and they celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary shortly before her death in 2005. Jack served in the Army Air Corps as a navigator/bombardier during World War II and flew 44 missions over Europe.
After the war, Jack attended the Rhode Island School of Design and obtained his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of New Mexico. In 1952, Jack and Carol moved to Colorado Springs when he started work in the audio/visual department at Ent Air Force Base. Two daughters were born to their marriage --- Jill and Ann.
Jack pursued his art career on the side until his retirement, when he and Carol were able to devote their full attention to painting and travel throughout the Southwest and Midwest parts of the country. They spent several years in Sidney, Iowa with Carol’s father, and then moved back to Colorado Springs.
Jack is survived by immediate family members daughters Jill Hartley and her husband Don; Ann Johnson and her husband Kent; grandsons Cody Hartley, Kyle (Jen) Johnson, John (Heidi) Hartley, and Karl (Kaylee) Johnson; and great-grandchildren Max, Audrey, Hailey, and Jarrett .
Inurnment will be held Friday, August 3, at 10:00 a.m. at Grace and St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 601 N. Tejon, followed by a memorial service at 2:30 p.m. at Brookdale Place, 10 West Monument, both in Colorado Springs. Friends are welcome to attend either service or both. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Jack’s memory to Brookdale Place, 10 West Monument, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80903. Please note donations are for employee appreciation.
