Our beloved Jim Hubbard died courageously on March 5, 2022. Jim was a third-generation Colorado native born in Glenwood Springs on April 23, 1943. His parents, Jack and Betty Hubbard proceeded him in death.
Jim traveled the world before settling down to attend American University in Washington, D.C. He had a life-long career as a horse-race announcer, broadcaster, news director and actor. One of his first roles was in an acting troupe in D.C. performing political satire. Jim loved performing, whether on the stage or for his friends and family including telling stories, singing or playing his guitar. He also loved playing tennis and golf. In later years, Jim was blessed becoming a member of the Phamaly Theatre Company in Denver. Phamaly theatre is performed entirely by artists with disabilities.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years Penny Larson-Hubbard and by his three siblings, Michael Hubbard and his wife Heather, Linda Filderman and her husband Bob, Sean Hubbard and his wife Shiela. He is also survived by his two children and five grandchildren: Seth Hubbard and his wife Ruth, their three children Liam, Grace and Patrick and Sara Ahlgren with her husband Tim and children Evan and Sydney.
Jim’s Uncle Ken and Aunt Elenore Hubbard, also still with us, always loved and supported him through his many years of suffering with health issues.
Jim was also loved and survived by sister-in-law Laura Heermans and her husband Stuart, niece Nikki Rose with her husband Mark and Jim’s sixth grandchild Hailey Rose.
He was lovingly cared for in his last years by his friend Michael Haroway from Australia.
A celebration of life for James will be held Friday, March 18, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Mountain View Mortuary, 2350 Montebello Square Drive, Colorado Springs, CO 80918.
