Janelle Ormsby, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away peacefully in her home in Colorado Springs, CO at the age of 84. She was born in Aransas Pass, Texas to Adolph and Hettye (Gerla) Hanke. At the age of 13, much to her disappointment, her father decided to move to Colorado Springs so that when she married, it wouldn’t be to a “Shrimp Fisherman”. Then at the age of 15, she met the Love of her Life, Charles Ormsby and married at the age of 17, June 3, 1950. This year would have been their 67th anniversary. Janelle graduated from Colorado Springs High School (Palmer) at the age of 15 in 1949.
She was a “Stay-at-Home Mom” while raising seven beautiful daughters and opened her home and heart to many of her daughters and grand-children’s friends.
Janelle was an accomplished pianist, ice skater, tap dancer and ballerina. She was also a devoted animal lover and raised numerous dogs, cats, fish, birds and her favorite Blue and Gold Macaw. She also took care and fed, all the many outside feral cats, raccoon’s and occasional foxes and deer!
Janelle sang for years with the Sweet Adeline’s in Colorado Springs. Janelle also enjoyed playing golf and belonged to the Patty Niners. In the early 80’s Chuck and Janelle joined “Ports of Call” Travel Club and visited many cities and countries around the world. Together, they built their “Cabin” at Twin Lakes, Colorado where they would invite their many friends to come up and go snowmobiling!
She is survived by her husband, Charles H. Ormsby Jr., daughters Lezlee Gillaspie, Denise (Steve) Schrock, Karrie (Marcus) Meyer, Stephanie (Bob) Fleming, Julie (Rob) Glownia, Nancy (John) Hudec and Valarie Ormsby, also 11 grand-children, 15 great grand-children and one on the way.
