Janet G. Cox, 92, of Colorado Springs, passed away on March 4, 2011 in Colorado Springs. Janet was born on February 13, 1919 in Norwich, Connecticut to the late Weston and Irene (Gregson) Pullen. Janet graduated from Norwich Free Academy High School and attended Wheaton and Vasaar colleges. She worked at Ginn and Company Publishers in Boston, MA and joined the American Red Cross during World War II. With the Red Cross she served in India, Burma, and China Theatre. She married her husband (Col. USAF) Andrew Lacock Cox on February 23, 1946 in Old Lyme, Connecticut.
Over the years, Janet resided in Washington DC, Albuquerque, New Mexico, England and Virginia. She has remained a Colorado Springs resident since 1961 and was an eleven year resident at Cheyenne Place Retirement Community. Janet volunteered at the American Heart Society, Broadmoor Improvement Society and The Villager’s Shop.
Janet was a wonderful woman and will be missed by all. She is survived by her son, Andrew L. Cox, Jr., and his wife, Connie of Redmond, WA as well as three grandchildren, Andrea, Geoff and Weston. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Andrew.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:30 PM, Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at Cheyenne Place Retirement Community, 945 Tenderfoot Hill Road in Colorado Springs, CO. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to The American Red Cross, The American Heart Association or a charity of the donor’s choice.
