Jean Elizabeth Schimmack

Jean was born to Emil and Merne Olson in Chappell, NE on October 13, 1935 and passed peacefully in Colorado Springs on March 15, 2026. Jean graduated from Luther College in Wahoo, NE. She was employed by the Augustana Lutheran Church Youth office before moving to Colorado Springs.

Jean worked for Looart Press/Current and retired in 1995 after 35 years with Current. Jean is survived by her husband of 62 years George, her son Barry (Terri), her son Greg, and her daughter Amy (Kevin). Jean’s greatest love was for her grandchildren: Danya, Brett, Claire, Annika, Benjamin, Lucas, and Amber. She is also survived by two nephews in Colorado; Steve Benson and Jeff Benson; as well as two great nieces and their families in Texas.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and their husbands: Mary Jane and Roger Benson, Carolyn and Jake Jenkins, Bonnie and Sonny Stanley, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Jean and George enjoyed volunteering at elementary schools, the family room at Memorial Hospital, as well as both square and round dancing. Jean was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church.

Jean was a devoted, loving, and loyal friend who will be greatly missed.

Memorial services will be held on April 20, 2026 at Ascension Lutheran Church, 2505 N. Circle at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow the service.

A luncheon will follow at the conclusion of the service. We suggest that memorials be made to Ascension Lutheran Church in lieu of flowers. Condolences for the family may be mailed to Swan Law Funeral Home or to Ascension Lutheran Church.
