The Lord gives, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord. Job 1:21
(To my children)
"When I am gone, release me, let me go. I have so many things to see and do,
You mustn't tie yourself to me with too many tears, But be thankful we had so many good years."
Jerry Geno Meeks Sr., fondly known as Geno by his loved ones, was born on August 8, 1952, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Betty Jean and Milton Lee Turner. He was the oldest of two children born to this union. Geno was a product of the Detroit Public Schools and spent 35 years working for the Chrysler Motor Company in Detroit, MI, before retiring in 2007.
As a young man, Geno was very active and had many hobbies. He was a Boy Scout, and he loved to ice skate, build wooden go-karts, model cars, and wooden airplanes. He also loved and played baseball and was great at bowling.
Geno met the love of his life, Gera LaTosha (Tosha), early in life. The pair was a perfect match; they went together like peanut butter and jelly. Geno and Tosha wedded on February 1, 1974. To this union, four children were born. He and Tosha were referred to as the Jeffersons; "George" and "Wheezy." They were inseparable, not until death did they part. They took their vows seriously. Geno was a devoted husband who stood by Tosha's side in sickness and in health, caring for her with the assistance of his brother-in-law, Gus Jolly, until she passed away in 2019.
Geno was the epitome of a real man, one in a million, leaving a legacy that will be hard to match. He loved his children, but his grandchildren were his world! Geno always ensured his family had
the best of everything. The Meeks always had the best, whether it was driving a new car, owning the latest gadget, or wearing the finest clothes. Geno and Tosha were more than just fabulous; they were groovy! Geno loved his family, music, sports, and shopping. He was the best father, uncle, and friend anyone could ask for. He and Tosha were like magnets to their nieces and nephews. To know him was to love him, but make no mistake; Geno protected his family at all costs.
"George" was missing "Wheezy," and on December 10, 2023, around 11:20 PM, Geno departed this life to be with his Tosha.
His parents Betty Jean and Milton Turner, his beloved grandmother Bureaner Allen,
grandfathers Levi Meeks and Eugene Allen, uncle Kenneth W. Meeks, and sister-in-law Mary Ann (Joseph) Jackson all preceded him in death. Geno leaves to cherish his memory: Four
Children: Khalilah, Jerry Geno Jr. (Cristina), Khalid (Destiny) and Nikita. Six grandchildren: Aaliyah, Alex, Alicia, Allen, Atlee and Kwame Meeks. One sister, Carmaletta (Booker) Sims.
Two sisters-in-law: Carol (Calvin) Davis, Linda (Willie) Newsom, and three brothers-in-law: Lloyd, Gus and Rodrick (Michelle) Jolly. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
"Let not your heart be troubled; ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go and prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. (John 14:1-3)
