Jo Ann Duncan was born December 24, 1933, in Durham, North Carolina to Troy John Eudy, Sr. and Emma Vashti (Smith) Eudy. The family moved about in those difficult years until her father found stable employment in Alexandria, Virginia. It was there, while home from Lynchburg College (now University of Lynchburg), she met Robert Malcolm Duncan, himself home on for the holidays from the United States Military Academy (West Point) in 1954. He graduated and they married at Washington Street Methodist Church on June 9, 1956. Together they roamed the world before settling in Northern Virginia in 1969. Her husband died in an accident in March 2000 in Pinehurst, NC where they had retired in 1988.
Jo’s activities were varied, and she was always on the go. Whether it was singing, dancing, or playing tennis there was not a day unfilled during their lives in Pinehurst. A founding member of the Sophisticated Ladies, numerous choral directing activities at various churches, and, at least, twice-weekly tennis leagues at the Club’s Tennis facility, Jo was a study in motion. She slowed down a little in 2021 when she sold her home in Pinehurst, NC and relocated to Brookdale – Skyline in Colorado, Springs, Colorado. Until recently, she participated in many of the activities offered by this wonderful facility.
Over the course of her life, Jo was mother to Michael Jeffrey (JoyceAnn), James Robert (Kathy), and Cynthia Lynn (Jennifer) and grandmother to Scotland Michael (Sarah), Matthew Joseph (Amy), and Brittney Ann (Devon). She also had six great grandchildren.
She suffered a hard fall on Friday, taken to Pikes Peak Hospice, and passed peacefully early Monday, October 6, 2025, holding her daughter’s hand, at the age of 91. The family is most grateful for the kindness and care provided by both organizations during her time in Colorado.
She joins her parents, her husband of 44 years, Bob, and her son, James, in the arms of her Lord. Requiescat in Pacem.
A family graveside service is planned for Spring 2026 at Bethesda Cemetery in Aberdeen, North Carolina. Mountain View Funeral & Cremation of Colorado Springs, CO is assisting the family.
