Joan S. Beringer was born November 4, 1933 in Presidio, California to Charles Bradley and Clara Mae (Forrester) Self. She was the oldest of three children. Joan’s father was a career military officer whose many assignments took them all over the world. Of Joan’s fondest memories were the years the family spent in the Philippines before and after WWII. Joan graduated from Lincoln High School in San Francisco, California. Shortly thereafter, she moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado where her father was stationed at Camp Carson. In the spring of 1955, Joan was introduced to her future husband, Jack Beringer. After a failed set up attempt by family members, Joan found herself without a date to an important event. Jack, who was attending West Point Academy, happened to be on break and available so he courted her to the event. They were married a short time later on March 12, 1955 at Shove Memorial Chapel in Colorado Springs.
Like Joan’s father, Jack was a career military man. Jack and Joan traveled extensively on his many assignments, Germany being their favorite, where they made lifelong friends.
A few years before his retirement in 1974, their children Luke and Laura came along. The family lived in Ft. Collins where Jack and Joan were very active in their children’s activities and Joan enjoyed Bridge with friends, as well as various volunteer assignments, including at the local hospital.
After the kids were grown, Jack and Joan built a home on Cheyenne Mountain in Colorado Springs where they lived for many years with their two Boston Terriers, Tatters and Torny. Jack and Joan enjoyed many years of church activities, traveling, their granddaughter Carrie and spending time with many wonderful friends.
Joan is preceded in death by her husband Jack Beringer and sister June (Self) Shrader.
Joan is survived by her brother-Bob Self, brother-in-law Glenn Shrader, children Luke Beringer and Laura Campbell (Ryan), granddaughter Carrie Campbell and several nieces and nephews.
