

John Henry Evans succumbed to cancer on June, 30 2011. John Evans was born on February 19, 1933 in Louisville, Kentucky and was 78 years old at the time of his demise. He was born to Theodore Evans and Gladys McFarland, both of Louisville, Kentucky and both now deceased. Mr. Evans retired from the United States Air Force after honorably servicing for 20 years as an aircraft engine mechanic and a radar technician. After leaving the Air Force, Mr. Evans obtained a position as an electronics technician with Ampex Corporation here in Colorado Springs and retired in 1991. Mr. Evans attended Pikes Peak Community College (formerly El Paso Community College) where he earned an Associates’ degree. Mr. Evans has been a member of the Colorado Springs community for over forty-one years. He was an active and faithful member of the Friendship Baptist Church until his health began to fail. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of over forty-seven years, Essie M. Evans. He is survived by two sons, John Evans Jr. and Quintin Evans, both of Colorado Springs, one daughter, Laura J. Taylor, Samuel Taylor (son-in-law) of Augusta, Georgia, two sisters, Theola Richie and Ella Shoulders of Louisville, Kentucky. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Shauntina Taylor, Kesha Taylor, Devantay Taylor, and Parker Evans and has several other relatives in Colorado Springs, Louisville, and Tampa. Mr. Evans is to be interred at Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for July 14 from 4-7 pm at Memorial Gardens Cemetery and Funeral Homes, 3825 Airport Road. Funeral services will take place at Friendship Baptist Church, 633 East Dale St. on July 15 from 11 am to 12 pm.
