

Born July 19, 1932 in Fullerton, NE to Joseph Leo Kaveney and Lois Hoese Kaveney. 1954 graduate of the University of Nebraska. Member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity, Army Veteran of the Korean War.
John worked in the computer industry for IBM and Honeywell, then had his own business. After retirement he realized a lifelong dream and graduated from the Police Academy, serving as a detective for the Cheyenne Police Department, Cheyenne, WY and a volunteer Community Service Officer for the Kiowa, CO Sheriff's Department.
Bureau of Land Management volunteer in Wyoming, He was very active in the Red Cross, volunteering for over 45 years, teaching life saving skills. John coached Masters Swimming classes for many years.
Preceded in death by his first wife, Carol Heizenrader Kaveney, survived by his wife, Jody, daughter, Gretchen, Austin, TX; daughter, Bridget Blackburn, Bakersfield, CA; son John, Laguna Niguel, CA and daughter, Michelle Hendrickson (Scott) Aurora, CO, six grandchildren and one great grandson.
Member of the Al Kaly Shrine in Colorado Springs. Played tuba in the Shrine band and also played in a brass ensemble. Active in the First Lutheran Church, Colorado Springs.
John was an organ donor. His tissue was harvested for burn victims.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at 11:00 AM at First Lutheran Church - 1515 N. Cascade Ave., Colorado Springs, CO 80907.
