John was born in Atlantic City on June 19, 1937 to Mary and Bayard V.C. Van Rensselaer. He joined the Navy for 4 years as a radar tech and then attended Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO where he met and married Sharon Benton. They moved to Pennsylvania and had 2 boys, Derek in 1971 and Kevin in 1974. In 1977, they moved to Colorado Springs. John pursued several insurance jobs over his career. After retiring, they bought another home in Colorado Springs where Sharon still resides. He enjoyed doing Sudoku, watching sports, tracking investments, and basically joking around with everyone he met. He is survived by his wife Sharon, sons Derek and Kevin, and brother Cort (Judy).
Celebration of life services will be held on February 18th at 1PM, at Swan Law Funeral Directors, 501 North Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO 80903.
