

Doctor Joseph Lewis Romett returned to his Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 21, 2026. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 53 years, Jolene; his children Danielle, Joseph/Jay(Kelly), Todd (Lisa) and Michael (Leah); his siblings Carol, Donald (Debbie), Patrick, Gary (Jennifer), Elisa (Chris) and Rosemary. Lew was the loving grandfather to 9 grandchildren: Jude, Kayla, Hannah, Isaiah, Claire and Emma; MacKenzie and Kingsley; and Luna. Lew was a loving uncle to 9 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Frances (Arotin) Romett and by his sister Denise.
Lew grew up in Levittown, Pennsylvania. He was fascinated by math and science at an early age. He graduated from Bishop Egan High School in 1967. He graduated from the United States Air Force Academy where he excelled in Physics and Math. He was awarded the Outstanding Cadet in Basic Sciences upon his graduation in 1972. He graduated from Creighton University Medical School in 1977 and completed his residency in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery in 1982. He was assigned to the USAFA Hospital for four years. He left the Air Force and practiced ENT in Colorado Springs, CO for the next 31 years. Initially he was a solo practitioner. Lew was a founding member of Colorado ENT and Allergy, the largest Otolaryngology group in the state. He also served as the managing partner for over 15 years. He felt privileged to practice medicine and felt especially privileged to have practiced Otolaryngology. He authored numerous articles and studies, spoke at multiple national meetings and hosted numerous leaders in Otolaryngology at meetings in Colorado Springs.
Lew was a loving husband and father. He always made his family his top priority. He loved coaching his children in sports. Lew once told his younger partners that he had never been to a meeting that was more important than his child’s game. He loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed fishing throughout the west. He will greatly miss his fishing buddy. He enjoyed golf and the camaraderie that went with playing with family and friends. Baseball was his favorite sport. He always looked forward to spring training in Arizona and attending games with friends and family. He was fortunate enough to be in a bridge group for over 40 years. Lew was an avid reader and studied mathematics and statistics his whole life. Levittown, where he grew up, is in the Delaware Valley, just north of Philadelphia, in the shadow of Washington’s Crossing. He loved the history of the United States, especially the history of the Revolutionary War.
Lew was known for his positive attitude and big smile. His positivity and loving spirit sustained him and his family throughout his lengthy illness. Lew was an example to many and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
His life will be honored March 26th at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, 6455 Brook Park Dr., Colorado Springs; with a reception immediately following in Bonzel Hall at the church.
A private Interment will be March 27th at the Air Force Academy.
